Delta: Rival storms out as Emerhor wins APC governorship primaries

A businessman and ex-senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Delta State, Olorogun O’tega Emerhor, on Thursday emerged the party’s governorship candidate in next year’s election.

But his victory did not go down without drama as Mr. Okenmor Tilije, the only opponent to Emerhor, protested what he described as the ‘’official arrangement’’ for the congress which took place at the Oshimili North Arcade, Asaba.

However, Emerhor’s victory today was expected as he had been endorsed earlier this month by the leaders of the party in the state.

Tilije, who was with a horde of his supporters eventually stormed out of the venue before voting commenced.

Emerhor‎ won 100 per cent, as his only rival and his supporters backed out, leaving only the businessman as the sole contestant.

He was last Sunday presented his clearance certificate by the chairman of APC South-South Screening Committee, Alhaji Tijani Gwazo.

Before then, he was on November 18th adopted as Delta APC’s sole aspirant and by extension candidate for the 2015 gubernatorial election by all zonal, local government and ward leaders of the party across all the three senatorial districts of the state

A Fellow, Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, Emerhor holds a first class Honours degree in Accountancy from the University of Nigeria and later worked with PriceWaterhouseCoopers, then PriceWaterhouse.

He is an Alumnus of the Institute of Management Development, Lausanne, Switzerland and was once a non-executive Director of the Nigerian Telecommunications Limited and afterwards served as Director of FinBank Plc .

He became the Chief Executive Officer and Vice-chairman of Standard Alliance Insurance Plc, just before he served as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Crystal Bank Limited (Standard Trust Bank Limited), now UBA Plc.
